Fish Molee || Kerala Style Fish Recipe|| Pomfret Curry


Ingredients

Fish – 500gms cut into medium pieces
Ideal Fishes for this recipe - King Fish(Seer Fish/Nei Meen), Pomfret(Avoli),Pearl Spot(Karimeen)
Here in this recipe i have used Pomfret(Avoli) fish

 

For Masala Paste

1.  Ginger Garlic paste – ½ Tbsp
2.  Pepper – ¾ tsp crushed peppercorns or pepper powder
3.  Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
4.  Salt – to taste
5.  Lemon juice – ½ Tbsp

 

For Fish Curry

1.  Coconut oil – 2Tbsp
2.  Whole spices
  a) Cinnamon stick – 2nos
  b) Cardomom – 2nos
  c) Cloves – 4nos
  d) Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam) – ½ tsp
3.  Ginger Garlic – ¾ inch piece and 4or5 cloves chopped
4.  Green Chilli – 4 to 5 nos slit
5.  Onion – 1 big size
6.  Curry Leaves – 1sprig
7.  Salt – to taste
8.  Tomato – 1nos sliced
9.  Coriander powder – ½ Tbsp
10.  Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
11.  Pepper powder – 1 tsp
12.  Thick Coconut milk(1St Milk) – ½ cup
13.  Thin Coconut milk (2nd Milk) – 1 ½ cup


Instructions

1.  Clean the fish by removing its scales, giving a slice in bottom and removing the inside parts, then wash the fish well. Marinate the the fish with Masala Paste and keep it aside for around 45mins


2.  In a NON STICK pan add oil . When it gets heated, place the marinated fish one by one. Shallow fry the marinated fish pieces by turning both sides for 2minutes each side (half cooked) . And keep aside
If you feel fish will stick to bottom to avoid that problem Add oil in a pan and Place 2 or 3 Curry leaves strigs then place the marinated fish or pieces on top and fry


3.  In the same fried oil add Cinnamon, Cardomom, Cloves, Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam). Stir it for few seconds


4.  Reduce the flame to medium and add chopped Ginger, Garlic , Green Chilly and Onions. Put a string curry leaves and Add a little salt. Saute till the onions turns into a golden brown.


5.  Add the tomato pieces and saute for 2 minutes. Then add the Coriander powder, Turmeric powder,Pepper Powder and stir it for a few seconds.


6.  At a low flame Now add the 2nd (Thin)Coconut Milk and allow it to boil by stiring occasionally. Check for its salt


7.  When it starts boiling add the shallow fried fish pieces. Close with a lid and cook on low heat till the gravy thickens. Stir occasionally (Donot stir with the spoon or ladle hold the pan with both hands and just make a swirl) in a medium flame


8.  Now Add the 1st (Thick)coconut milk stir it by rotating the pan pour 1tsp coconut oil over it. Cover and cook for 2minutes. When its done add curry leaves.


9.  Remove it from flame and keep it closed for around 10minutes


Now our Fish Molee is ready to serve!!!! Enjoy this with Appam,Puttu,Bread Pathiri,Idiyappam,Rice,Chappathi,Paratha etc
